Q: What is a Double Dead Shell?

The new MCS Double Dead layup is designed for competitive shooters. We have actually just renamed the triple shell that we have offered for years. This shell and fill will be thicker and heavier to help with balance, recoil reduction, and superior harmonic dampening. The Double Dead shell adds approx. 1.5 lbs and is available with any finish. The process adds to the shell on the inside of the stock and features a proprietary fill made specifically for shooters chasing extreme accuracy in competitive environments. While we offer this with the mini chassis, it is designed to be most effective with a fully pillar bedded firearm. Although the standard and Elite Tac layups are still great options on the range, the Double Dead is optimized for those shooters on the competitive circuit.

Q: How do I check the status of my custom-build stock?

The average lead time for a custom-built stock is 4-6 months from the time your order is approved by you. Because each hand-crafted stock is built to the highest quality standards in the industry and each is custom built to your specs, it can be difficult to give accurate lead times until the order has made it to the final stages of production. This usually occurs at about 2 to 3 months into the build, when the stock has made it through the mill room inletting process. Due to the high volume of calls and emails we receive, we usually respond to ETA inquiries in 1-2 business days. Please note, we also keep a wide range of completed ready-to-ship stocks and flat tops on our web store . Q: How do I ship my barreled action?

As long as you are the legal, registered owner of a firearm and have followed all local and federal guidelines, you may ship your barreled action to MCS. It may be shipped directly from your own address or through a local dealer with a Federal Firearms License (FFL). Once we receive your firearm, it will be logged into our FFL book and ATF laws dictate that it must be shipped directly back to the address that you have provided. We cannot ship it back to a different address unless it is being shipped to an active FFL holder. If we receive your barreled action without a case, once work is complete, we will ship it back to you in a hard-sided plastic case inside a corrugated box. The charge for the case will be $35.95 plus insurance. If you decide to ship your firearm in a box or case, please take measures to protect the trigger or remove it. Loose barreled actions with triggers installed will slide around inside a case, and it is not uncommon to have the trigger shoe break if the case is dropped. We are not responsible for any damage to your barreled action incurred while in transit to our facility, so please fully insure the firearm when shipping to us. We value your firearm and parts and wish to return it to you in the same condition as we receive it. NOTE: PLEASE REMOVE OPTICS BEFORE SHIPPING. NO LIVE AMMO IS ACCEPTED, BUT WE DO ACCEPT DUMMY ROUNDS IF NEEDED TO FIT BOTTOM METAL.

Q: Do I need to pillar bed my stock?

If you choose a stock without a mini chassis, you must have it glass bedded with pillars. At minimum, the pillars must be installed and the lug area bedded. The pillars prevent stock crush over time, keeping the torque values consistent. We build our stocks with tolerances needed for a competent gunsmith to bed your action. The glass bedding will ensure your action stays secure and is repeatable for a lifetime of use. The bedding will give a mirrored fit of your barreled action and will help with accuracy, repeatability, and longevity.

Q: What is the minimum and maximum length (LOP) for stocks?

The minimum and maximum length of pull (LOP) will vary by stock model. We are able to achieve shorter LOPs on stocks that have a fixed cheek and straight comb (eg, EH1, T2, T4, T5). The shortest LOP (approx. 12") will be achieved on the EH1. Shorter LOPS will be harder to achieve on stocks that have adjustable cheeks, Monte Carlo style cheekpiece, indentations in the comb (PRS, T4A Team) or larger drop of comb. We do offer an Adjustable Butt Spacer System to achieve LOPs longer than 14".

Q: Why choose a lightweight vs. a heavier stock?

Your intended use of the rifle can determine your desired weight. If you are hunting in the mountains or carrying your rifle a lot, a lighter rifle will be a joy to have. However, if you're shooting your rifle at the range or in competition, a heavier rifle can help you find success easier by way of stability and recoil reduction. We offer multiple choices to help you get a stock perfect for your needs.

Q: Which stock models are available in a left-handed version?

All of our stocks models with the exception of the following are available in left-handed versions: T2A Gap, T4A Team, T5A, PRS1T, PRS1TK, PRS1CZ, EHSL and UC.

Q: Which accessories are included with my MCS stock?

A completed stock will ship with two (2) 9/16" pillars. The pillars will need to be trimmed and the stock will need to be pillar bedded to sure proper fit and feeding. This does not apply to stocks ordered with a BDL mini-chassis. Stocks fitted with a DBM mini-chassis will be shipped with the appropriate magazine, 2 action screws and a chassis packet with specs. Your action screws may need to be trimmed to size depending on your action model.
