What is a Double Dead Shell?2021-02-09T13:50:21-06:00

The new MCS Double Dead layup is designed for competitive shooters. We have actually just renamed the triple shell that we have offered for years. This shell and fill will be thicker and heavier to help with balance, recoil reduction, and superior harmonic dampening. The Double Dead shell adds approx. 1.5 lbs and is available with any finish. The process adds to the shell on the inside of the stock and features a proprietary fill made specifically for shooters chasing extreme accuracy in competitive environments. While we offer this with the mini chassis, it is designed to be most effective with a fully pillar bedded firearm. Although the standard and Elite Tac layups are still great options on the range, the Double Dead is optimized for those shooters on the competitive circuit.

How do I check the status of my custom-build stock?2021-04-16T11:55:49-05:00

The average lead time for a custom-built stock is 4-6 months from the time your order is approved by you. Because each hand-crafted stock is built to the highest quality standards in the industry and each is custom built to your specs, it can be difficult to give accurate lead times until the order has made it to the final stages of production. This usually occurs at about 2 to 3 months into the build, when the stock has made it through the mill room inletting process. Due to the high volume of calls and emails we receive, we usually respond to ETA inquiries in 1-2 business days. Please note, we also keep a wide range of completed ready-to-ship stocks and flat tops on our web store.

You may call our office at 816.283.3334 Monday-Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm Central time or email sales@mannersstocks.com to obtain the status of your stock.

How do I ship my barreled action?2021-02-07T19:55:15-06:00

As long as you are the legal, registered owner of a firearm and have followed all local and federal guidelines, you may ship your barreled action to MCS. It may be shipped directly from your own address or through a local dealer with a Federal Firearms License (FFL).

Once we receive your firearm, it will be logged into our FFL book and ATF laws dictate that it must be shipped directly back to the address that you have provided. We cannot ship it back to a different address unless it is being shipped to an active FFL holder.

If we receive your barreled action without a case, once work is complete, we will ship it back to you in a hard-sided plastic case inside a corrugated box. The charge for the case will be $35.95 plus insurance. If you decide to ship your firearm in a box or case, please take measures to protect the trigger or remove it. Loose barreled actions with triggers installed will slide around inside a case, and it is not uncommon to have the trigger shoe break if the case is dropped.

We are not responsible for any damage to your barreled action incurred while in transit to our facility, so please fully insure the firearm when shipping to us. We value your firearm and parts and wish to return it to you in the same condition as we receive it. NOTE: PLEASE REMOVE OPTICS BEFORE SHIPPING. NO LIVE AMMO IS ACCEPTED, BUT WE DO ACCEPT DUMMY ROUNDS IF NEEDED TO FIT BOTTOM METAL.

Should I use a mini chassis or have my stock pillar bedded?2021-02-07T19:36:34-06:00

There are benefits to both options. Your individual needs can help you decide which is best for you.

A mini chassis offers convenience such as bolt-in and go shooting and the ability to swap barreled actions. Since there is no gunsmithing required, you are able to quickly install your new stock and hit the range. If you are building a dedicated competition rifle or a custom hunting rifle that you are trying to keep light, we feel that a fully pillar bedded action is best. Pillar bedding will ensure that your action is fully stress free.

The optimum chassis design would be a 100% full contact chassis that supports 100% of the action area. Unfortunately, this is virtually impossible to achieve because of the wide range of actions now available. Even though each action is machined to very tight tolerances, it is impossible to have a chassis that will ensure a 100% stress-free fit because of variations in diameter and shape.

To account for these variations, the MCS Mini Chassis is designed like a V-block. It actually pulls the action down int0 the V-block to ensure no movement and constant accuracy and repeatability. The action will only contact the chassis at these points: 1)  the back of lug, 2) from the back of the lug to the front of the mag well at about 4 and 8 o’clock, 3) from the back of the mag well to the end of the tang at 4 and 8 o’clock, 4) around the rear action screw, there is a small crush ring support that reinforces the tang.

Do I need to pillar bed my stock?2021-04-06T14:25:42-05:00

If you choose a stock without a mini chassis, you must have it glass bedded with pillars. At minimum, the pillars must be installed and the lug area bedded. The pillars prevent stock crush over time, keeping the torque values consistent. We build our stocks with tolerances needed for a competent gunsmith to bed your action. The glass bedding will ensure your action stays secure and is repeatable for a lifetime of use.  The bedding will give a mirrored fit of your barreled action and will help with accuracy, repeatability, and longevity.

What is the minimum and maximum length (LOP) for stocks?2020-11-25T11:10:47-06:00

The minimum and maximum length of pull (LOP) will vary by stock model. We are able to achieve shorter LOPs on stocks that have a fixed cheek and straight comb (eg, EH1, T2, T4, T5). The shortest LOP (approx. 12″) will be achieved on the EH1. Shorter LOPS will be harder to achieve on stocks that have adjustable cheeks, Monte Carlo style cheekpiece, indentations in the comb (PRS, T4A Team) or larger drop of comb. We do offer an Adjustable Butt Spacer System to achieve LOPs longer than 14″.

Why choose a lightweight vs. a heavier stock?2021-02-09T13:55:04-06:00

Your intended use of the rifle can determine your desired weight. If you are hunting in the mountains or carrying your rifle a lot, a lighter rifle will be a joy to have. However, if you’re shooting your rifle at the range or in competition, a heavier rifle can help you find success easier by way of stability and recoil reduction. We offer multiple choices to help you get a stock perfect for your needs.

Which stock models are available in a left-handed version?2020-11-23T10:30:03-06:00

All of our stocks models with the exception of the following are available in left-handed versions: T2A Gap, T4A Team, T5A, PRS1T, PRS1TK, PRS1CZ, EHSL and UC.

Why are some stocks made specifically for Tikka actions?2021-04-06T14:28:41-05:00

We make Tikka-specific stocks to accommodate the high rear tang on Tikka actions. Our lineup of Tikka stocks includes: T4 Tikka, EH1-TK, EHT, EHTA and the PRS1TK.

Which accessories are included with my MCS stock?2021-04-06T14:29:23-05:00

A completed stock will ship with two (2) 9/16″ pillars. The pillars will need to be trimmed and the stock will need to be pillar bedded to sure proper fit and feeding. This does not apply to stocks ordered with a BDL mini-chassis.

Stocks fitted with a DBM mini-chassis will be shipped with the appropriate magazine, 2 action screws and a chassis packet with specs. Your action screws may need to be trimmed to size depending on your action model.

Why do we ask for all of your component information when you order a custom-built stock?2020-11-23T09:54:47-06:00

To ensure proper fit and compatibility of barrel contour, action length and diameter, bottom metal size and compatibility with action. We also need to ensure that any hardware you request (eg, embedded rails, EFRs, sling studs, flush cups, etc.) will work with the stock model you order.

Which stock models can accept an Adjustable Cheek Spacer?2020-11-23T09:45:52-06:00

Any of the MCS stocks that have a squared, fixed comb. Those models are: EH1, EH5, T2, T4, T4CZ, T4 Quad, T5, T6, PRS1CZ, CS1, CS2, CS 10/22. Folding stocks or rounded-comb stocks will not accept the Adjustable Cheek Spacer.

What are flush cups and sling studs?2021-04-06T14:31:49-05:00

Flush cups are sling mount bases that are embedded flush with the surface of the rifle stock. You insert a quick-detach push-button swivel into the flush cup base. Flush cups may be either rotating or non-rotating, and are usually located on the front and rear side (left side for RH shooters and right side for LH shooters), but can also be on the bottom of the stock.

Sling studs are sling mounts that are screwed into the bottom of the stock and protrude 3/8″. Sling swivels are used to attach slings to the sling studs. Sling studs may also be used as mounts for certain bipods.

Some of the most common placements of flush cups and sling studs are:

  • 1 sling stud bottom front, 2 flush cups left side (for RH shooters). This arrangement will accommodate a sling and a bipod.
  • 2 sling studs bottom front, 1 sling stud bottom rear. This arrangement will accommodate a sling and a bipod.
Can I change any of the specs on my stock after I have placed my order?2020-10-14T12:38:05-05:00

You may change any of the specs on your stock at any time but it could affect the completion time. If you make any of the following changes, your stock completion date will be reset to the current lead time for custom-built stocks:

  • Changes to color/finish or shell after stock has been shelled, unless you are changing to a painted finish.
  • Changes to action, barrel or trigger guard inlet after stock has been inletted.

The following changes will result in a delay of 2-4 weeks:

  • Adding or changing hardware (rails, flush cups, sling studs, etc).
  • Changing color of stock to a painted finish.
How is my stock shipped and what is the shipping cost?2020-10-14T10:59:08-05:00

We use United Parcel Service (UPS) to ship most stocks. All stocks shipped via UPS in the continental US are shipped via UPS Ground service. Shipments to Alaska and Hawaii are shipped using UPS 2nd Day Air. Standard ground shipping is $29.95 for the first stock and $10.00 for each additional stock shipped in the same box. Shipping via 2nd Day Air is $49.95 for the first stock and $10.00 for each additional stock shipped in the same box.

Stocks being shipped to a PO Box must be shipped via the US Postal Service. Shipping price is the same as UPS shipping.

What is LOP and how is it measured?2020-11-23T10:24:44-06:00

LOP is an abbreviation for “length of pull.” LOP may be measured several ways but we recommend that you find a rifle that is comfortable for you to shoot, then measure from the middle of the trigger shoe to the flat edge of the recoil pad in a straight line. This will give us a working measurement. The standard LOP for MCS stocks is 13.5 inches.

What is the difference between Elite Hunter shell, Elite Tactical shell and Standard shell?2020-10-14T10:17:15-05:00

The Elite Hunter shell is a 100% carbon fiber shell which comes standard on all of our EH (hunting) series stocks.

The Elite Tactical shell is also a 100% carbon fiber shell and comes standard on some of our tactical stocks (PRS series), but is an additional charge on the T series and CS series tactical stocks.

The Standard shell is a mix of carbon fiber and fiberglass and is slightly heavier than the Elite Hunter/Tactical shell. This shell is the default shell for the T series and CS series.

When do I pay for my stock?2020-10-14T10:07:02-05:00

If you have ordered a custom-built stock, you will pay when the stock is in finishing (approximately 2-4 weeks before completion). You will be sent an invoice via email.

Flat top and ready-to-ship stocks must be paid at the time of purchase.

Can I have a stock delivered sooner than the current lead time for custom-built stocks?2021-04-06T11:26:04-05:00

Yes! There are 3 ways to order an MCS stock:

  1. Custom Built – Current lead time of 5-6 months. Orders for our custom-built stocks may be placed on our stock builder or by telephone. We do not encourage placing orders by email and they often do not contain all the information we may need. Click here to visit our online stock builder.
  2. Flat Top Stocks – These are stocks that have been produced in a variety of stock models and colors but have not been inletted for action, bottom metal or barrel contour, so you may customize to fit your rifle. You may also add hardware (flush cups, sling studs, etc). These stocks usually ship 6-8 weeks after order is placed. Click here to view our current selection of Flat Top stocks.
  3. Ready To Ship Stocks – We have a variety of stock models to choose from on our Ready To Ship page. These stocks are already inletted for a particular action, bottom metal and barrel contour and  sold “as is.” Only minor hardware changes may be made. Ready To Ship stocks will ship in 1-2 business days. Click here to view our current selection of Ready To Ship stocks.

Matte Finish vs. High Gloss Finish2020-10-12T13:20:49-05:00

Stocks may be ordered in either matte (standard) or high gloss (optional, on request) finish. The matte finish has a bit more texture and feel and is less reflective. The high gloss is flashier, great for show guns, but the finish will lack any additional texture making it a bit more slippery.

What is the difference between an “Elite Tac” finish and a “Standard” finish2020-10-12T13:03:59-05:00

Standard finishes will have a solid-color background that will cover up the carbon fiber (on stocks with Elite Tac shell) or fiberglass (on stocks with Standard shell). Elite Tac finishes (available only on stocks with Elite Tac shells) have the carbon fiber as the background. For example, Elite Tac Midnight would have a 40% carbon fiber background, 30% light gray and 30% dark gray. Standard Finish would have 40% black background, 30% light gray and 30% dark gray.

What is a “field-grade” finish?2020-10-12T12:51:18-05:00

A field-grade finish applies to all molded-in camo, web or speckle finishes. Small imperfections may be visible in the finish, such as: mold lines, sanding marks and fiberglass cloth.  Instead of a flat finish like our painted stocks, the field-grade finish is a sanded matte to minimize reflections.  All of our Elite Tac finishes are also available in high gloss.

What is the difference between a “molded in” finish and a “painted” finish?2020-10-12T12:44:02-05:00

A “molded-in” or “molded” finish is pressed into the carbon fiber (Elite Tactical and Elite Hunter shell) or fiberglass (Standard shell) material when the stock is made. In order to remove the pigment from a molded finish, you would need to cut or scratch into the cloth material itself. Molded-in finishes are going to hold up to wear and tear (drops, scuffs and scrapes) better than a painted finish but will show any cosmetic flaws in the stock (eg, pinholes, overlapping carbon, etc).

Can I get an “Elite Tac” finish on a stock with a standard shell?2020-10-12T12:01:41-05:00

No. The Elite Tac finishes are all 2 or 3-color finishes with carbon fiber base as the background. All of our Elite Tac finishes are available in Standard finish. Standard finish will usually have a solid black background.
